One of the benefits of living back at home again is that I can go into the garage (where most of my life is still stored, quietly decaying in cardboard boxes), and fish out things of interest from time to time.

One such treasure which I've just rescued is my ice-cream maker, which I'm taking out for a spin this evening. Making home-made ice-cream has a great deal to recommend it, believe me! (Although I'm not sure my arteries would agree!) There's that smug "I'm making something myself" feeling, coupled with the deliciousness of the final product, as well as the excitement of watching it set before your very eyes. Then there's the infinite variety of flavours you can make! It's vanilla today, but I might try white chocolate again soon.

Any suggestions?

I remember the ice-cream maker well. All those trips to Sainsbury's to buy double cream by the barrel full ;-)

Although I'm not terribly fond of the commercial variety, one of my favourites was strawberry (I think we made it with tinned strawberries.)

There were some tasty but not too unhealthy recipes too, though I can't remember them now. Perhaps a trawl on the 'Net would turn up some less artery furring ideas?

Now you've got my mouth watering, I'll be off to Carrefour tomorrow to buy an ice-cream maker and several gallons of cream :-)

I thought white chocolate was particularly nice, but that's probably even less healthy than vanilla!

How's the ice-cream making coming along? I've found lots of lovely recipes on the web, including quite a few using yoghurt, low fat evaporated milk and the the like. So there are some slightly more healthy options ;-)

Well, as it happens, I made some *lovely* raspberry ice-cream yesterday evening - with fresh raspberries, yoghurt and cream, sieveing out the pips - it was fantastic!

Ooooh. Wrap some up in a polystyrene container with some dry ice and send it to me, LOL.
