Back again

Erm... (taps microphone) hello...? Is anybody still out there?

After a break of a year and a half or so, and too many spam attacks to mention, I'm back... for now, at least.

Is anybody still there? I've given this blog a thorough spring-clean, installing new software (the latest version of Movable Type if that means anything to you) and hopefully making it spam-proof. The comments function is working again (gasp!). And I'm currently too tired from all the work to say anything particularly sensible.

So let me welcome you back with a picture. This is from a few weeks ago, when I was assigned as the interpreter at the christening of the building which houses the Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions.

The building was to be named the "Jacques Delors Building", as it was he who saw to it that the two illustrious institutions housed therein saw the light of day.

However, owing to a bit of a technical mix-up, there only seemed to be one of the two microphones working up on the podium. (It was meant to be one for me, one for Mr Delors).

Naturally, I volunteered to hold the microphone for Mr Delors, and not vice-versa, but it didn't really turn out that way. And hence the picture!

Hey Dan, welcome back!

When you say "it *was* to be named..." does that mean it wound up being christened something else? The Dana Paisley building, perhaps?

Welcome back, Dan. You beat me to it... I was about to do the same thing with my site. Glad to see they're employing a better class of mic holders for you these days.

Thanks! It's lovely to be back, especially to receive your comments again! And Matt: Owing to my lack of concentration, I think that the English speakers now are calling it the Jacques Santer building. After all, he was a Commission President, wasn't he? Near enough, surely? (Only joking, if there are colleagues reading this!)
